Camăr is situated in the western part of Salaj County, 50 km from Zalău, the county seat. Camăr village consists of one village because of depopulation of the other village situated 3km from the village center. City Camăr which is part of the hilly regions of Sălaj, has an altitude of 300-350m, the lowest area of 166m and its highest point of being 380m.
In Camăr’s vicinity lies to the north Csahoj, to the east Carastelec, south Ip and Zăuan, west Leşmir, Somály, Balc.
The total area of the village is 3811ha being one of the largest settlements of Salaj. Its intravilan area is of 172ha.
The settlement is accessible from highway Marghita Şimleu Silvaniei by the village of IP on the road DJ109P (12km) or from the direction Sărmăşag-Şimleul Silvaniei on the intersection to Carastelec road DC100 (11km) or from Marghita on the intersection towards Balc road DC100 (7km ).
The first document dates from 1320 as the drawing Kemer. Being a feudal village of serfs, in 1447 became the center for keeping fairs because of immediate circumstance, when Hunyadi raised to the rank of deal, which it will keep until the eighteenth century the most populous settlement area. Romanian Camăr name dates back to the first settlement of Romanian families in Kemer in 1737. The settlement is owned by Kemer family for centuries by the end sec. XVII. Then is the family estate Bölöni has held since 1773 until the end of feudal conjunctures.
Tatar invasion destroyed the village, which, however, began to grow again, instead people will take refuge in the sixteenth century, and the town is populated again. Camăr won Reform in 1560. In the eighteenth century the village is devastated again by Tatars and even plague worsens the situation. Only after reconciliation from the town of Satu Mare the village begins to strengthen, that the census of 1720 counted 1267 inhabitants settlement.
Camăr took part in the revolution of 1848 led Bölöni Dániel sons.
In the First World War 17 people lost their lives in the little front in Galicia, Tyrol and Serbia in the Second World War 36 people died on the front or prison camps.
Camăr population based on the 2006 Agricultural Registeri of 1838 people. Hungarian ethnic division is 1594 (86%), Romanian 106 (6%) and 138 Roma (8%).
Churches have a rich community life and activities due choral, blowing instrument orchestras. Confessional population can be divided in 1247 Reformed, 240 Baptists, 105 free Christian, 88 Adventists, 102 Greek Catholic, 16 Orthodox and 40 Pentecostals. Each community develops its own church. Reformed church built in 1800-1802 in the village center stands the imposing heritage buildings and the cup being dated in 1596 and other cult objects of the 1600s, 1700. The Romanian community is forged certified by wooden church in 1774.
With the establishment of the Foundation Pro Camăr, cultural values that are promoted in popular culture increasingly more, most events of this kind being in place at the Cultural and Community House. We have a well-stocked library and a video library. Village Days organized in regular patterns, folk dance festivals, parties at the grapes harvest. We remember with respect and our heroes’ Monument at March 15.
Industry and services
Many villagers carries on business in the construction works with a reputation that goes beyond borders.
The bakery established with the support of the World Bank provide a livelihood for 25 families. Their products (bread, cake, croissants) are sought in neighboring regions.
In tailoring are produced bedding, blankets, clothing for children and adults.
The craftsmen carpenters, coopers, blacksmiths are at our customers disposal.
Camăr is famous for its brandy in the village produces annually 400,000 liter in our 5 boiler.
The division of agricultural land is as follows: 2120 ha arable land, 167 ha hayfield, 480 ha pasture, 171 ha orchard and vineyard.
The economic life of our village agriculture still has the largest share. The considerable amount of Sheep (2000 head) and cattle raising at home (150 families). Orchards primarily provides the basis for the production of brandy.
Agriculture future is certainly in large plots, leased or purchased.
About 300 ha were populated with trees in order to market them as winter trees or ornamental trees.
